redewade I adore this album. It is so raw. I can't think of any other way to describe it. Cut right to the bone. Favorite track: River.

dai64 Such an amazing and moving track, really hard to pick my favourite as it’s such a stunning album. Just hear listening to my vinyl copy, thanks so much for releasing this masterpiece on vinyl. Hope to hear some more music from you guys soon. Favorite track: Here Is Where.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to listen to "Here Is Where" without getting teary-eyed. Painfully honest vocals, careful instrumentation without the usual post-rock trappings, and proudly, unapologetically Scottish. Favorite track: Here Is Where.

radowankenobi Absolutely stunning. One of my all-time favorites. Favorite track: South Street.

1.
Long time ago, watched it roar The billowing black towering smoke And our hearts did beat, o they pounded loudly But we didn't speak, we just stared Not a word, just silence struck upon our tongues And heaven heaved a sigh out from its lungs
2.
River 03:25
Walking by the river, whole way home Put together, summer clothes Singing loud enough to wake the dead Out of tune and out of breath And my head on the wrong way round Every careless word, I take it back My tongue was loose, my tongue was slack At 10 to 3 I tried to plead My voice got lost in the insistent beat Left incomplete Persist with me, eventually I'll come good We used to talk, you used to have me round I used to sing for you But now it's not the same, I sing quietly again You shrink my world into a fist You stay mad and I'll stay pissed And I'll stay here Every careless word, I take it back My tongue was loose, my tongue was slack At 10 to 3 I try to plead My voice got lost in the insistent beat Left incomplete Persist with me, eventually I'll come good You should clasp your hands and pray You brought the pain If you love me lightly, I'd love you the same In time Walking by the river, whole way home Put together, summer clothes Singing loud enough to wake the dead Not enough now that you've left My head on the wrong way round You should clasp your hands and pray You brought the pain If you love me lightly, I'd love you the same [O the sky could fall tonight on South Street…]
3.
Roots 03:02
Woke up on the cold bathroom floor Worldly-wise; you were young, you were bored With a scar from the night before Etched fresh on your chest But that's par for the course these days When she called you up out of the blue You felt sick for a bit but that passed and you knew That growing up happened too fast You can't remember last summer Or the way that she laughed Well you can't remember much at all anymore On a night filled with stuttering stars You once watched the skies From your beat up old car Parked at the side of the road Guided by voices from the radio Well you're feeling down so you might go out And if you get lucky you might fool around With some girl in some room While the roots you put down Are still straining to move And you'll leave before the morning lights your shame You're cynical and you've only got yourself to blame
4.
Youngblood 04:37
You've been twisting, turning in your sleep Your nerves all cut to ribbon, you can barely eat You're far from home, far from home Hearing voices on the underground The built they up and, boy, they will cut you down And break your bones, break your bones We've been turning, turning, turning old Young blood on the floor and a television glow We're wasting time, wasting time You've been drinking quietly tonight Trying to take the edge off the dark, dark bright Like every time, like every time
5.
A gale of psalms from the chapel doors Some trembling song stretched heavenward And carried on the cold wild wind Lingering in March Steadied hand on steady glass A toast to absent company Bartered blood and borrowed brass While outside sirens sing Left at last call Dreamed a dream by the old canal He slept through the night And they came and they traced him in white On Ash Wednesday So midnight falls still and black As silent as that maker's hand That left you reeling, left you cold When your weary world it woke The phone dropped to the floor in the kitchen The TV was flickering, hissing the news Some far flung half truths But home's where the heart is And home's where the hurt is too I left at last call Dreamed a ghost on the 44 In amber light, the city sleeps peaceful tonight On Ash Wednesday
6.
You found home, it was all that you'd been told My love, o our blood like the river flowed So stay close Let it glow, let it spark Fast and slow Burning bright in the dark I found home in the wasted morning glow My love, so a broken song I wrote So stay close Let it glow, let it spark Fast and slow Burning bright in the dark We stayed up late, talked it over Tried to dream ourselves awake O brother, what our father told us We'll tell ours in our own way And here is where my heart is Even though it wanders long Buts the blood it keeps on flowing And the wind returns its song
7.
Lay Me Down 03:35
Will you return to sender The message that I wrote On a spiral bound pad Left around your flat? I had to go Tell my mother not to worry Tell my father I'm alright Been awake for days O when are you coming Crashing through my night? And for a while, I'd lay me down If I should ever wander If I should ever stray I've got a vague idea I like it here And the feeling I should stay I did my worst to those who loved me And gave my best to those who don't Well I brought them all a wrecking ball And I took it to their homes And for a while, I'll lay me down
8.
The city sleeps but we're awake We spirit home before the break Of dawn upon the streets In which we live and love and breathe And half the high-rises have turned to dust The Fairfields now are scrap and rust The sirens sing, the west wind howls What once was here was holy ground Not now And I confess that I've lately been a mess So I wonder where you'll sleep tonight And decide it would be best To stay out late and not come home To wander Kelvingrove alone I'm young enough to still believe Some faded glory might just shelter me And here is where my whole world turns And here is where my heart returns And here is where I've sworn and cursed And here is where I kissed you first In amber light shot through with rain I swear I don't intend to waste a syllable Each word is blessed The truth must blaze through every single breath Unbending, stark A lit steeple against unending dark And someone sprayed this on the wall: "I love it here" I don't at all Do you live for the love you've found? Some sad slow song to lay you down And still your weary worried heart Throw light upon your darkest dark That unsung psalm burst into flame That wild black night that calls your name O river, take my bloodied bones The toll can have my heart to hold Do you live for the loves you've lost? Do they linger in your thoughts? And ever in your fitful sleeps (In your wild and dark imaginings) Do you ever really dream of me? And if you did what would that mean? O river, take my bloodied bones The toll can have my heart to hold Unbending, stark A lit steeple against unending dark O river, take my bloodied bones The toll can have my heart to hold
9.
Your house was aglow Blazing through the smoke I saw you walking out the flames I heard you still look the same As you did when I knew you then Bright as a full cloudless moon You packed your clothes, far from home You left without a word while I remain And these songs I've been singing Don't keep the world from spinning Well not much has changed Your brother he is still the same We found him passed out in the park We still sit in the basement Listening whilst wasted To all of the stuff our parents hated You packed your clothes, far from home You left without a word while I remain And these songs I've been singing Don't keep the world from spinning We prayed for rain, we prayed for rain
10.
South Street 04:39
Stayed up late Tried to dream ourselves awake We've been growing up with grace Been wondering if I should stay Well, if you say so Heaven knows She's not quite who she hoped she'd be And heaven knows I disagree Just nod in time and don't misspeak And all the while be wildly bored So keep the front door closed Keep your ears to the ground Keep your eyes on the open road But don't go And since I can't forget I want to breathe out new lungs And cast a whole new silhouette I want to The sky could fall tonight for all I care On South Street I won't be there After 9, met you at the station sign Slightly drunk but quite contrite I'm wired to the moon tonight I'm going nowhere Faster now Headlong through the city streets May Christmas lights come on for me Make me believe in make believe So keep the front door closed Keep your ears to the ground Keep your eyes on the open road But don't go And since I can't forget I want to breathe out new lungs And cast a whole new silhouette I want to The sky could fall tonight for all I care On South Street I won't be there
11.
The faded shine of an old copper coin on each eye Was it the sound of a holy roar Or a thief stealing through the back door? When they carried you home Did you think you'd stay long? Are you waiting, waiting, waiting For something to drink or smoke? Does it ever keep you up at night? Now you wait for night to put on his old 45s And you dance in the starlit loft While the shadows move quiet and soft In our coats on the lawn with our Sunday best on You were shaking, shaking, shaking And under the elder and oak We stayed up, we didn't go home And so we lay our backs against the weeds A stony sainted silence at our feet A million foundry fires lit up the sky And as the city slowly stirred they died
12.
The pistons have grown silent And my friends are long gone Just who the hell do you think you are? Have you ever built a thing? This used to be my city This used to be my town Now everyone's a stranger Well hell mend you now This used to be my dear green place This used to be mine I remember music I remember it was warm And everyone was smiling And spinning round and round And she wore a white dress The white ribbon in her her Spinning as she pirouettes I can't remember her face This used to be my dear green place Well thank God for the good days

about

"...a record that is informed and instructed by the past, but also one that feels very much alive and at home in the here and now. It’s an eminently exciting, and beautifully constructed, album that seems to grow and unveil new textures upon every new listen..." - Gold Flake Paint

"Every sound appears to have been painstakingly placed, which makes for a thoroughly captivating listen. It’s a collection of chilly songs ablaze with the warmth of home; a melting pot of hope, frustration and memory. The Dark, Dark Bright is a rare type of album, as introspective as it is visceral – a stirring and thoughtful piece of work." - The List

"...an absolute triumph of an album, from a band who can now stand aside, not behind, the influences that shaped them." - Scottish Fiction
